Calling Dong He

On June 18, 2001, Denise performed on the cold, windblown beaches of Terschelling, a northern island of the Netherlands.   She had promised her writer friend, Dong He, that she would visit her where she lived in Olso, Norway, while Denise was visiting the Netherlands.  But she didn’t have the means to get herself to Oslo.  So instead, she faced Oslo and yelled Dong’s name out across the North Sea for 48 minutes.  Beachcombers, seagulls and cows in the nearby fields were the audience.  Performance coincided with the 20th Annual Oerol Performance Festival on Terschelling Island.
